Car Parks
Depending on the type of construction, structural element and specific combination of exposures anticipated, the ideal protection of the car park deck may require more than one solution. Therefore Sika has developed a range of standard car park decking systems, which are fully tested and appropriate for most car parks. These systems can be divided into the following categories:

The wide Car Park System range means that all possible combinations of deck exposure can be safely met and systems can specifically be designed after customer requirements are assessed. When selecting a waterproof decking system(s) for New Build and Refurbishment of car parks, a suitably qualified and experienced Architect/Engineer should always consider the following factors in order to select the most appropriate system to meet their requirement based on the construction of the structure, i.e. in-situ concrete, steel framed, composite decks or precast units.
Movement - Ground movement or movement of the structure
Thermal Variations - Sunlight, frost and Ultraviolet Light
Atmospheric Carbonation - Gradually and progressively reduces the protective alkaline layer around the reinforcement, which will allow the steel to corrode
Rainwater - With water filling the pores and capillaries, concrete becomes susceptible to freeze/thaw damage
De-icing Salts - De-icing salts are based on chlorides, which accelerate the freeze/thaw reaction, corrode embedded steel reinforcement and often delaminates concrete covers.
Aggressive Pollutants - Acidic oxide gases of sulphur and nitrogen from exhausts diffuse into the condensation and attack and corrode the concrete surface.
